No Country for Old Men = HAWTaction
One of the things HAWTaction is born to do is discuss movies and tv shows that are totally worth your attention. If you're going to throw down money, ($11.75 per ticket in the city now!!!!!) I'm hoping to discuss suggestions on where to put it. Not so much with conventional movie reviews, I'll just offer recommendations where this money should go.
This is be one of them. No Country for Old Men is the new Coen brothers movie, and it's delectable. These brothers have collaborated on such craptaculars as Miller's Crossing, Fargo and the Man Who Wasn't There.
You haven't seen a villain like this before. Javier Bardem boiled the brain with goodness. He reminded me of the General in Pan's Labyrinth, but with juuuuuuuuuust a bit more charisma. Then I just think that Spanish actors are really, really not bad.
Go see it. Don't have a heart attack, though, because the movie will certainly take you to palpitations. Then, have a sidebar discussion with me if Tommy Lee Jones' character makes the movie better or worse. Heck, is he even necessary?

Aw come on, "No Country" was nowhere near Fargo and other Coen bros delights.
As a menace, the killer is one dimensional, and you're right ... what's the point of Tommy Lee's character, other than to confirm the world is filling itself with retirees and their seen-it-all ennui? (No I don't need to go look at the shootout scene again either.)
Speaking of plot ... i.e, virtually none ... wasn't this just another "Jaws" or "Terminator?" The next scenes are seen coming: bursting up from the ocean again, forming from liquid metal again, grabbing that cattle nailer again. Takes a lickin' keeps on tickin'.
I did enjoy the killer's "integrity factor" ... but that's also an old device.
Have you seen "There Will Be Blood?" (That was the choice I sacrificed to see "No Country.")
Chip
Hello, Chip, and welcome to HAWTaction!
I think if we compared every movie to the creators' previous work, we'd be a very grumpy audience.
I did see There Will Be Blood, and that was one fantastic movie, though I think we could discuss the ending offline, if you feel so inclined.
Why do I feel like I could edits these movies better? Who am I to have that opinion? Well, I'm me, and this is my blog.
Good to see you here, Chip!
