Dubai's Insane New Bridge
I discussed Dubai's insane building in the very first Tall Building post that covered the Burj Dubai. Essentially, they are building A LOT because they have more oil money than what they know what to do with... so, Dubai has become the ultimate billionaire's playground.
Adding to the superlative (tallest, largest, biggest) list,
construction begins next month in Dubai for this insane bridge, the largest arch bridge ever created. An arch bridge is like a suspension bridge, but instead of towers with cables suspended between them to support the distributed weight of the bridge (like the Brooklyn Bridge), an arch bridge uses.... arches to hold the weight of the bridge. None have been made like this, though. In 2012, $817 million later, Dubai will have this sassy, 670-foot tall, 12-lane behemoth.
Enjoy some more photos, courtesy of the architects, FxFowle. Oh, I might have to go to Dubai in 2012, stay in the Burj Dubai, go shopping in the world's largest mall and take a metro line across this arch bridge.

That bridge is some serious HAWT action [hot ak-shuh

Isn't Dubai where they have that man-made island mass in the shape of a palm tree?!
I hope they have a bathroom stop at the middle. I remember this one time, when my family was driving across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and my brother had to pee so bad that he couldn't hold it, that he had to go in a Burger King cup (medium size).
I was sitting next to him, and let me tell you, I have never been more tramatized.*
Not so HAWT.

*By the way, I checked this story out with the girls in my cube quadrant, and while they said that there is a mild undertone of insanity here, it would be acceptable to post this. Please don't get a restraining order.
Yes, Dubai's where they have the islands shaped like a palm tree AND the world. Building there is totally insane.... a billionaire's playground! If you want more madness, check out Tall Building: The Burj Dubai, one of the first posts on the site.
