Tall Building: Infinity Tower

| | Comments (4) | | | |
I'm way into big buildings.  They do a lot more for a city's character and future than most people recognize.  So, I think it's HAWTaction [hot ak-shuhn] to keep tabs on new projects like the Nakheel Harbour and Tower, Bahrain WTC, Honeycomb SkyscraperBurj Dubai... in Dubai... in Pictures, CCTV and TVCC Towers, Tokyo Sky Tree, Burj Dubai (Revisited), Dancing Towers, Dynamic Tower, Dubai Towers, The Lighthouse (Paris), The Lighthouse (Dubai), Antilla, London's Super Tower, Eiffel Tower, Shuffle Tower, Full Moon, Caspian Bay, Chicago Spire, Chicago's Aqua Tower, Infinity Tower, Teardrop, Christmas Tree or the Burj Dubai.

060608som.jpgLooooook at that beauty.  Now, granted we've seen spinning torsos from Calatrava, but a full, 90 degree turn?  Ladies and gentlemen, I present the Infinity Tower, another marvel coming to the city of Dubai.
Construction has already started on it, and it's expected to be 995 feet and 75 stories tall when completed in 2009.  The thing that amazes me the most about the building is that it maintains the same floor layout between stories.  They are building it out of cast-in-place high-strength concrete (which is really just oatmeal that's been sitting out for a few days), moving the floor over one degree as it climbs upwards.

That is a thing of beauty.

The Infinity Tower will have 456 residential units, ranging from studios to penthouses that span an entire floor.  Of course, the bottom floors will be dedicated to commerce, with everything from a health spa to a day-care center.  This Infinity Tower is some HAWT action [hot ak-shuhn].

Oh, and I promise my next
Tall Building post won't be in Dubai or Chicago...

I wonder how elevators will work in this thing? Do they spiral as well?

If you keep in a continual square, wont that create weird angles as each floor is 1 degree off center from the rest?

I was curious about that, too. I went on the building's site and apparently there is a central core that runs up the center of the building that will house elevators and stairs. You come out, on every floor, into a round "lobby" with apartment doors coming off it.

These people are smaaaaht.

If I were to build a new high rise, I'd install a bunch of fire poles. This way, you could quickly get down a floor or two instead of taking the stairs or waiting for an elevator.

In fact, I live in a 4 floor townhouse. I should put them in all over. That would be hawt.
