Baby Seal Killing in Canada
I am on The Humane Society's email group. Every few days, it sends me Action Item that it invites me to act on... whether it's an email I can send to my Senator to have my voice heard on a certain topic (like Japanese whale hunting).
Today I got an action item regarding baby seal killing in Canada. I was so shocked I lost my breath, donated money and then wrote this post.

Not only did this dawn start the slaughter of up to 275,000 baby seals for their fur, but the Canadian government refuses to issue observation permits, even to journalists, so that no one can document this heart-tearing slaughter. The last time this many seals were killed was in the 1950's and 1960's. The seal's population dropped by two thirds.

If you have the stomach for it, watch the seal-clubbing video to see how these men operate, sprinting onto an island and then swinging like they are digging a ditch. (Then watch how they treat the corpses!) Please go to the Humane Society's Seal Hunt site and learn about the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. Then act, by either writing the Canadian government, boycotting Canadian seafood (the hunting happens when fishing is off-season) or donating money to this worthy cause.

Reminds me of the crazy southerners who hunt all the time. Rifle with a scope. Paint their faces, douse themselves with "au de deer buck". And they call it a sport.
This makes me want to get a boat, get a giant stick and charge these fishermen's houses, bonking them on the head while they are sleeping, and pile them up in a row boat.

That's just messed up.
To me this is cruel. I dont understand why people have to kill seals, Its messed upp. Its disturbing and the way they kill them is sick and disgusting it should stop.
I'm sorry but I really don't see anything wrong with sealing in Canada. they are killing the seals in a humanly way and there isn't really a difference between sealing and killing a chicken. And besides, the seals might over populate if we don't kill them.

I agree with your seal/chicken point. BUT seal hunters aren't always "accurate" with their sticks and hooks. So, though their intention is to kill humanely, they certainly fall short. I feel like if everything was above board, the government would allow news media to tape the hunting...

Like in our country we have alot of fish pan, instead wasting your time killing some innocent creatures, think about something that you can do to produce more food.
No wonder god will destroy earth.
I think the seal hunting is not humanely done. They club these young animals to death and some dont even die instantly! They can be skinned alive. I cant believe it. its one thing to shoot the animal, but clubbing? Come on you sick people, killing an innocent animal for fun and fur? Think about it, im a kid and i cant believe some adults are this ignorant.

I agree with Mckayla. Those people who kill those poor incent animals should be stop or even kill just as they kill those seals that didnt cause or did anything wrong to them. And that is NOT a human way to kill them!! They are actually having fun while they are killing them with a stick and a hooks, and sometimes they havent even die and they already are cutting them open.THATS NOT FAIR FOR AN ANIMAL TO FEEL SO MUCH PAIN WHEN THEY HAVENT DONE ANYTHING WRONG!!
they also say that they have to kill them because theres too many..i say the images on the tv and believe me, there were not many around the place, and they still kill those seals that coulnt defend themselfs at all. That is sick people who needs to go to a psychologis or even go to jail.

My friend was doing a research project earlier this week on baby seal clubbing. He told me of how grotesque the images were. Of how the canadian snow was stained in red. I came online to see this, and I am so upset at what people are doing. These images are some of the worst things a human being could do to an animal. It is inhumane to the highest degree, clubbing with a bat is not even close to being a fair treatment. They say its to keep the canadian seal population down, thats a load of b.s., those people out there are doing it to profit. I hope God will be able to forgive them because I truly don't think I could.
i think those people that kil animals specialy seals and dolphins dont have heart nor brain they are so stupid and i dont care if its a sport i steel dont like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are innocent animals that have to survive like we do. Too bad if they are eating fish. Thats what they eat to live. The Canadians that are doing this should have the same treatment done to them. Beat with a stick and presumed dead and then skinned, alive. This is wrong, cruel, sick, perverted and all kinds of other wrongs. This should not have been even thought of let alone done. A lot!!! How can people be so cruel? And one more thing, Donna, how can you be so ignorant? There are such things as Polar Bears, they eat the seals and that keeps the seal population in check. And so what if they get over populated? Is that such a bad thing? Also they won't because there isn't enough food for them to over populated. Oh one more thing..... It isn't up to man to decide who lives, who dies. How many live and how many don't. Thats for Nature and God to decide. There is a way the Earth regulates herself.
