Tall Building: Full Moon and Caspian Plus

| | Comments (4) | | | |
I'm way into big buildings.  They do a lot more for a city's character and future than most people recognize.  So, I think it's HAWTaction [hot ak-shuhn] to keep tabs on new projects like the Nakheel Harbour and Tower, Bahrain WTC, Honeycomb SkyscraperBurj Dubai... in Dubai... in Pictures, CCTV and TVCC Towers, Tokyo Sky Tree, Burj Dubai (Revisited), Dancing Towers, Dynamic Tower, Dubai Towers, The Lighthouse (Paris), The Lighthouse (Dubai), Antilla, London's Super Tower, Eiffel Tower, Shuffle Tower, Full Moon, Caspian Bay, Chicago Spire, Chicago's Aqua Tower, Infinity Tower, Teardrop, Christmas Tree or the Burj Dubai. (THAT many Tall Building posts?  Whooooo-haw!)

This Tall Building post takes us to two projects in Baku, Azerbaijan,  Both inspired by the moon.  Azerbaijan?  Yes.... Azerbaijan.  The moon?  Yes....  The moon.

The Full Moon

1357FullMoonRising_pic1.jpgThat is one sassy building.  (Though only 35 stories tall, it can still be considered a Tall Building at HAWTaction.)  Internal space is a massive 104 thousand square meters (1.1 million square feet).  What is in that giant space?  A hotel with 382 rooms.  Holy.  Moly.  Thems is some seriously large rooms!

The design is something.  It looks like the moon/Death Star above, but check out another angle:
1357FullMoonRising_pic2.jpgStill sassy as hell, no?  Sure is.  Yet another angle:

The Caspian Plus

Literally across the Bay from the Moon will be the Caspian Plus, which is a cluster of buildings.  You can see their general locations in the photo above.  Here's the Caspian Plus for your gawking:

1357FullMoonRising_pic4.jpgThe main building is the Hotel Crescent, the arch that sits sassily on the water.  It is another luxury hotel, with 221 rooms, and will stand at 32 floors.  Just south of 1 million square feet, it will also have 128 services apartments.  Behind the arch, also in this "Caspian Plus" cluster are four buildings, three residential and the largest office space (43 floors).

Another angle.

1357FullMoonRising_pic5.jpgBoth of these complexes were designed by Heerim Architects.  Though I love the height the other Tall Building posts have explored, there is something very exciting about these more-squat ones.  I might have to book myself a ticket to Baku when these buildings are done.  I'll walk around those bad boys in a Storm Trooper outfit.
