Tall Building: Dubai Towers... in Dubai

| | Comments (3) | | | |
I'm way into big buildings.  They do a lot more for a city's character and future than most people recognize.  So, I think it's HAWTaction [hot ak-shuhn] to keep tabs on new projects like the Nakheel Harbour and Tower, Bahrain WTC, Honeycomb SkyscraperBurj Dubai... in Dubai... in Pictures, CCTV and TVCC Towers, Tokyo Sky Tree, Burj Dubai (Revisited), Dancing Towers, Dynamic Tower, Dubai Towers, The Lighthouse (Paris), The Lighthouse (Dubai), Antilla, London's Super Tower, Eiffel Tower, Shuffle Tower, Full Moon, Caspian Bay, Chicago Spire, Chicago's Aqua Tower, Infinity Tower, Teardrop, Christmas Tree or the Burj Dubai.

We're back at construction central, billionaire playground: Dubai.  Scan that Tall Buildings list above, and you still won't see anything like this.  These are the Dubai Towers... in Dubai.

DubaiTowers2.jpgIt will be a dizzy little addition to "The Lagoons" business district.  Designed by Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback and Associates, these four towers will be completed in mid 2010.

Is it just me, or do you also want to sit in that little water inlet and stare up at these guys?  My lordie.
Even though this is to be completed within 24 months, there is very little info about this building.  Usually Tall Building posts are flooded with info, but we're scraping by here just to get a few bullet points.

  • The towers will range from 57 to 94 floors in height, the tallest topping off at 1,310 feet (400 meters)
  • The tenants will be a healthy potpourri: apartments, hotels, restaurants, shopping
  • They are supposed to represent candlelights (which they do)
What's hard to understand is how tall these buildings are.  They are being built near the airport, so their height is restricted, but they are still giant.  That tall one is almost as tall as the Empire State Building.  Holy moly.  (It's funny how a flight path limits the height of buildings in Dubai, not... like... money.)

DubaiTowers1.jpgAs with all things Dubai, this financial district will be built on its own man-made island, The Lagoon.  The Dubai Towers will certainly put this on the map.  My lordie.  So nice.

DubaiTowersAtCityscape20062S.jpgWe'll follow up on these bad boys as we get closer to completion and more info starts coming out.

These towers are some HAWT action [hot ak-shuhn].
