Tall Building: The Dubai Dancing Towers

| | Comments (3) | | | |
I'm way into big buildings.  They do a lot more for a city's character and future than most people recognize.  So, I think it's HAWTaction [hot ak-shuhn] to keep tabs on new projects like the Nakheel Harbour and Tower, Bahrain WTC, Honeycomb SkyscraperBurj Dubai... in Dubai... in Pictures, CCTV and TVCC Towers, Tokyo Sky Tree, Burj Dubai (Revisited), Dancing Towers, Dynamic Tower, Dubai Towers, The Lighthouse (Paris), The Lighthouse (Dubai), Antilla, London's Super Tower, Eiffel Tower, Shuffle Tower, Full Moon, Caspian Bay, Chicago Spire, Chicago's Aqua Tower, Infinity Tower, Teardrop, Christmas Tree or the Burj Dubai.

Once again, we go to Dubai... because almost sassy construction is happening in Dubai.  This one's designed by Zaha Hadid, in her first Tall Building post, though she has made an appearance with Dubai's Opera House.  (I'm sure we'll see much more of her on HAWT.)  Well, once again, the money bags in Dubai have called out one of the world's greatest architects and said, "Build us something mind bending."  Hadid responded with the Dancing Towers.

1220_051109_creekview_day.jpgI know.  I know.  NOW you want to join the HAWT field trip to Dubai.  How about some info about this beauty?
I must say, there isn't much information on this project, so I imagine there's nothing incredible about it in terms of renewable energy or construction.  I do know that it's going up on Business Bay in Dubai and ground has broken.  It will have 80 million square feet (7.5 million square meters), with a little bit of residential, a little bit of commercial and a little bit of hospitality, all mixed into these sassy three towers.

1220_021109_dubai-cro0003_final_ppp.jpgThe two on the right touch for the first 7 stories, then the left two meet at 38th floor.  There isn't much more about this project but that it has an indoor swimming pool.  I'm sure it has elevators, too.  And running water.

creekview_night.jpgCome to think of it, I don't know how elevators are going to work in this guy.  I don't see a straight line through that middle, dancing tower.  Another thing unanswered.

6640_3_468.jpeg.jpgZaha Hadid is based out of the U.K., but she is Iraqi.  Hadid was the first woman to receive the distinguished Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004.  She can make some sassy things.  I can't wait for more info to come out about this bad boy so I can do an update post!

JLF - can we rent camels for a day while we are out there?
