J.C.: Michael Jackson - Some Facts

Thumbnail image for Jenn Cloutier.jpgJohn has asked us to do team coverage on Michael Jackson's death.  He, like, pointed me to a few websites to do some research and let you HAWT readers (he made me say that0 know about parts of Michael's life you might not know.  This'll be fun!

Before all, I have to say that, like, Michael Jackson was a hero to me.  My family would play his music when we went camping or hunting, and when I hear Thriller and Rocking With You I'll always thinking of skinning a bear or grilling possum on the fire.  My family will miss you, Michael.

The first thing is that Michael Jackson was an Indiana boy!  I knew a girl from Indiana once, and she did trapeze and she was GREAT... she was so independent and feisty.  And so was Michael Jackson!  And David Letterman!
Michael also won 13 Grammy's, which is like music's Emmy awards, and he sold over 750 million albums.  That's, like, more than any other artist.  It's so much!!

One of these websites John sent me to taught me something I had no idea about.  Michael Jackson did a couple of songs with this guy Paul McCartney, he was one of the Beatles, or something.  Paul told Michael that he was making a looooot of money by owning other people's music.  I read that Paul was making $40 million a year by owning other people's music!!!!  And this was back in the 80's!!  A long time ago!

Michael got interested in that as a business, and when a catalog of music became available from "Northern Songs," Michael wanted it.  Nothern Songs had lots of music, including the Beatles' catalog!!!  When Paul McCartney found out that Michael Jackson was going to buy the Beatles' songs, he started bidding for the music.  He tried to get Yoko Ono to partner with him in the purchase, but she wasn't interested.  What happened!!??!  In the end, Michael Jackson bought the catalog for something like $45 million.

I'm not a math person, but that seems crazy.  :-(  If Paul McCartney was earning $40 million a year on the music of other musicians... and, apparently, the Beatles are a big deal, selling lots and lots of music... So, how did the Beatles' songs go for only $45 million?  That seems crazy to me, but I'm not a mathematician nor a businessperson.  I'm just a girl.

Michael lead a very secretive life, which is interesting because he was the most famous person in the world for a long time.  Opposites attract!  He, obviously, had a little "work" done on his face and the color of his skin changed.  So different!  It is rumored that he had vitiligo, which is a disease where your skin loses its color and you get really sensitive to light.  One website even said he'd had lupus, but I have no idea what that is.  But Michael really changed his appearance.

michael-jackson-plastic-surgery.jpgMichael Jackson built an amusement park in his home in California.  He was sued many times for touching children... Ew!  Apparently, he used to give children wine and he called it Jesus Juice.  Ew!  He was married twice and leaves behind three children: Michael Joseph Jackson Junior, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, Prince Michael Jackson II (Blanket).  This is how Michael Jackson introduced Blanket to the world.

Cute!  Michael Jackson was training for 50 shows in London that were going to start happening soon.  Obviously, they won't happen now....

He certainly was a person people said a lot about.  Now he's gone, but he was truly an influence and a world person.  I wonder what we will learn about him now that he's gone?  What happened with those children molestation charges?  What was the truth there?  Who was the surrogate mother who bore him his second child?  (I think it's Barbara Walters.)  What was Michael like at home?

Look for JLF and John to write something soon!

Interesting post, Jenn. It's close to what I wanted... It kind of fell apart at the end there, but I'm glad you finally used facts!

Look for JLF and my posts soon.
