The Super Bowl

header-event.pngEveryone knows that the Super Bowl is the largest TV event in the U.S., with around 80 million viewers, but let's look a little closer, shall we?  Chug some Gatorade.  Bend over in front of me with the pigskin.  42.... 14.... red.... HIKE.

The Super Bowl came about when the NFL and AFL joined leagues into the NFL we know today.  Part of that agreement was that the best team from each league would play off in a monster game to show who the best ever in the history of the world was... for that year.  At first, they wanted to name the game The Big One, but someone came up with the name Super Bowl when they saw someone playing with a "super ball" toy.  The name stuck, what with all the name cache the college bowls brought to it.  Incidentally, those games are called "bowls" because of the shape of the stadium they are played in.  Bowls.  Hmmm... I guess.  The first Super Bowl was in 1967.
